Where to Park Downtown Toronto Without Overpaying
Downtown Toronto parking, decoded: the cheapest lots, Green P secrets, and when it's smarter to just take the TTC.
Parking downtown can cost more than your dinner. Here’s how to pay less.
Use Green P lots, not private ones
City-run Green P lots are almost always cheaper than the private lots next door — sometimes half the price. Look for the green “P” signs. The Green P app shows real-time availability and lets you pay from your phone.
The evening and weekend trick
Many downtown lots switch to a flat evening rate (often $6–$8) after 6pm, and some offer weekend flat rates. If you’re coming for dinner or a show, time it right and you’ll pay a fraction of daytime rates.
Park at a subway station instead
Driving in from outside the city? Park at a TTC station lot (Kipling, Finch, Yorkdale) and take the subway downtown. You’ll skip downtown traffic and downtown prices in one move.
When to skip driving entirely
If your whole day is downtown — CN Tower, Ripley’s, the waterfront — the TTC or a day pass is cheaper than any parking option. Do the math: two people, one day pass each, zero parking stress.
Free parking exists (with patience)
Residential streets outside the core often have free parking with time limits. Read every sign twice — Toronto parking enforcement is famously unforgiving.
